Ava's Gallery Wall.

Today I’m excited to share a little project that I’ve been planning for a few months now in partnership with Minted!

If you’ve been following me for some time, you know that we recently transitioned Ava’s nursery into a “big girl room,” which she’s absolutely thrilled with. We replaced her crib with a beautiful pink grapefruit-colored bed, styled it with new bedding and a bedside table, and changed the layout of her furniture. Her room now looks so much bigger! You can see what her room used to look like here.

When we moved Ava’s dresser and mirror across the room, we were left with a large blank wall over her bed, which I thought would be absolutely perfect for a gallery wall! Naturally, I reached out to one of my favorite brands, Minted, and was thrilled that they were just as excited to work together on this project!

Ava’s definitely a girl who knows what she likes so she and I spent the next few days looking through Minted’s extensive kids art collection. Did you know that Minted’s kids collection included hundreds of pieces of artwork from independent artists from around the world and you can customize each and every piece by size and framing style? Ava and I searched the kids collection together and pulled pieces that reflected her interests (rainbows, unicorns, flowers, animals). It was really a lot of fun!

Browsing Minted’s kids art collection.

Once I had an idea of what she liked, I then chose the size, style and frame that would compliment her room best and fit the wall. I wanted the wall to look eclectic and curated so I chose different frames (some white wood, some light gray wood, and a couple in the whitewashed herringbone frame).

These are the pieces we chose:

I ordered it all and enjoyed the next week during which Ava asked me every single day if her artwork had arrived yet :)

Once the art arrived, I laid it all out on the floor to get a better idea of my design and how it might all fit together.

I typically mock up gallery wall layouts on my computer in advance of ordering pieces but once I have everything, I like to lay it all out once more to get a better feel for it. I absolutely recommend doing this because it almost always ends with me changing the order layout of the pieces.

I like to lay the artwork on the floor and play around with the layout and design before nailing the pieces to the wall.

Next came the fun part! While Ava was at school, I got to hanging the gallery wall! I began with one side of the wall and worked my way to the end, hanging one piece at a time.

Gallery wall going up! I always start from one side and work my way out.

Once most of the wall was complete, I decided to hang two smaller pieces over the headboard of the bed, wrapping the gallery wall around the corner. There are so many ways to hang gallery walls. Sometimes it involves calculated measurements to ensure even spacing but when it comes to kids’ spaces, I prefer it to feel whimsical and collected – a curation of pieces of varying sizes that coordinate while adding color and interest to the room.

When Ava came home from school and saw her room, she was grinning ear-to-ear. Her favorite piece? The unicorn… and the rainbows :)

Gallery walls can be so much fun to design but if you ever need help, Minted makes art styling easy. Did you know that you can text a photo of your wall to 415-993-WALL (9255) and a Minted stylist will text you back art recommendations that perfectly fit your space for free?! It doesn’t get easier than that!!

Minted has also been kind enough to give me a discount code to share with all of you (which is good through the end of the year!). You can use code MICHELLEART2022 for 20% off + free shipping on all framed artwork from Minted. Click HERE to shop Minted’s extensive kids art collection!

I’ve included some more photos of the completed gallery wall along with some links to the pieces that we chose below. I don’t know who loves this room more – me or Ava! A huge thank you to Minted for helping to make this project a reality!
