The Art That Pulled Our Basement Together
For the longest time, this wall in our basement felt like it was missing something but swapping in one large piece or art has completely changed the feel of the space.

Our basement has slowly become one of our favorite rooms to spend some time in, especially during slower evenings at home or weekends when we’re all gathered downstairs. Over time, I’ve tried to make it feel just as cozy and collected as the rest of our home, but this wall always felt a little unfinished to me no matter how much styling I added around it.
I knew that I wanted art that would soften the space and bring in a lighter, more calming feel without overwhelming the room. When I came across this piece from Minted, I immediately loved how airy and subtle it felt. The tones were neutral enough to blend beautifully with everything we already had in the basement, but it still added enough texture and movement to make the entire space feel more layered and intentional.
One of my favorite things about the piece is how relaxed it feels. It adds interest to the room without becoming the only thing you notice, which is always something I look for when choosing artwork for our home. I wanted the space to feel warm, inviting, and lived in, and this piece truly helped pull everything together.
The Piece That Grounded the Entire Room

One of the biggest goals I had for our basement was making it feel warm and inviting while still keeping the overall design simple and relaxed. Basement spaces can sometimes feel a little darker or disconnected from the rest of the home, so I always try to focus on lighter textures, soft tones, and pieces that make the room feel open and comfortable.
Since this wall sits in the center of the seating area, I knew that I wanted artwork that would help anchor the room without feeling too heavy or formal. The oversized scale of this piece ended up being perfect because it fills the wall in such a natural way while still keeping everything feeling soft and minimal.
I chose a size 40x30 canvas so there’s no glare from the television and opted for a white wood frame with a floating mount.
I love how beautifully the artwork works with the warmer wood tones throughout the basement. Between the console, flooring, woven textures, and neutral fabrics, the room already had a very calm palette, and this piece complemented all of those tones perfectly. It almost feels like it was designed specifically for this space.
The art truly pulls this corner of our basement together in the most perfect way and I love it so much! The soft watercolor texture and subtle movement throughout the artwork immediately drew me in. It has such a calming feel and adds so much depth without overpowering the room. I love artwork that feels organic and relaxed, and this piece has that perfect balance of softness and texture that makes a space feel layered and welcoming.
The Details That Made Me Fall in Love With This Piece
The lighter tones throughout the piece also help brighten the basement in such a natural way. Even though the palette is neutral, there is still so much dimension within the artwork, which keeps it from feeling flat or overly simple.
I also love the subtle coastal influence of the piece. It feels airy and relaxed without leaning too beachy or themed, which is exactly the style I naturally gravitate toward in our home. It blends beautifully with the overall aesthetic of the basement while still adding enough personality to make the space feel unique and collected.
I think that is one of the reasons I love shopping for artwork through Minted so much. Their pieces always feel elevated and timeless while still being approachable enough for everyday living spaces.
Styling Around the Artwork
Once the art was hung, styling the console became so much easier because the piece already brought so much warmth and balance into the room. I kept everything fairly simple with stacked design books, soft florals, and a few neutral accessories that complement the tones in the artwork rather than competing with it.
I really wanted this area to feel layered but still relaxed, so I focused on mixing warm wood tones, soft fabrics, woven textures, and a few collected pieces throughout the styling. I always find that spaces feel the most inviting when they are simple but still have enough texture and variation to feel lived in and personal.
The artwork also helped tie together so many of the other design elements throughout the basement. From the softer rug tones to the linen fabrics and natural wood finishes, everything feels much more cohesive now that this wall has a focal point. It’s amazing how much one piece of artwork can influence the overall feeling of a room.
Creating a Space for the Kids Too
One thing I love most about our basement is that it truly works for our whole family. While the main seating area feels calm and cozy, we also wanted to make sure there was a space that felt fun and inviting for the kids too.
Just like the rest of the basement, I wanted this area to feel soft, functional, and connected to the overall design of our home rather than looking overly colorful or separate from the rest of the space. I focused on lighter tones, natural textures, and playful pieces that still felt elevated and timeless.
One of my favorite details in this space is all of the artwork layered throughout the play area. We mixed pieces from Minted with some of the kids’ own artwork and creations, which made the space feel even more personal and meaningful. I love that the Minted pieces still feel playful and creative while blending beautifully with the softer palette of the basement.
The woven table, boucle seating, layered rugs, and wood tones help keep everything feeling warm and relaxed while still making the space practical for everyday play. Having dedicated areas for both relaxing and play has made the basement feel so much more functional for our family, and I love that the entire space still flows together so naturally.
