Our Playroom Makeover with Serena & Lily.

I’m so excited to finally share a makeover with you that’s been months in the works! For some time now, I’ve been planning to update our playroom since the kids have grown older and they simply use the room differently now. In the past, we needed more open space so they could run around, ride little bikes, etc. Today, the space is mainly used to play board games, read books, build with blocks, and (still) jump around. So when Serena & Lily approached me asking if I’d like to collaborate on a room together, I immediately said yes!

The best part? Serena & Lily recently added a new availability feature on the website where you can search for products that deliver in under 4 weeks (a perfect feature for accomplishing your highest-priority design project!) .This meant that anything I ordered for the playroom using this new filter feature would arrive quickly (which also forced me to take the design of the space seriously and to get started on it right away!!)

The first thing we did was to move things around. We had a large trio of bookcases with cabinet doors that were originally in this room. I (along with my handyman) dismounted them and shifted them into the adjoining room, which is more of our media room. Doing so left me with a wide open space to go crazy with.

The first design element I chose was Serena & Lily’s Feather wallpaper, which has been a favorite of mine for some time. You’ve probably seen it in kids’ spaces all over Pinterest and Instagram and for good reason (it comes in so many beautiful colors) — but I feel like it’s such a classic, timeless design. It’s fun without being too kiddie. I chose the wallpaper in “bone” and installed it myself, which you can see here!

I chose this wallpaper in particular not only for its pattern but also for its colorway. Our playroom is in the basement, which doesn’t receive a ton of natural light. This part of our basement actually has no windows directly in the room. So while I wanted a fun pattern on the walls, I also was conscious to incorporate a wallpaper that would brighten the space. The Feather wallpaper in “bone” is light and bright and really makes the room feel a whole lot warmer.

Next up, I added an indoor play gym, which you can see more of here. It really set the tone for this side of the playroom being all about FUN and activity. Underneath the play gym, I added a Serena & Lily’s Beachmont Rug (which shipped in about two weeks!!). This rug is affordable and technically indoor/outdoor, which means it’s also durable! I love the pops of blue and gray that it adds to the room and how it cozies up the space and just makes the ground softer for our kiddos while they’re swinging (and dropping) from the play gym. I’m all about making a space work for you. For me, this rug makes our basement feel more like an extension of our home, which makes me want to be down in the basement more.

I also chose a few few Montecito Floor Pillows in coastal blue and white to tie in with the colors of the rug and to give the kids more of a softer landing. These pillows are HUGE and so, so substantial. They take up a good amount of room (which works out really well for the playroom since i wanted the floor to be covered). They’re also great for sitting on with a book. The kids LOVE them (as does our dog). Again, these shipped fast!!

Once the wallpaper was up and the rug was down, I decided to turn one wall into a reading nook by hanging my favorite acrylic bookshelves. Then I dragged over a cozy chair that we already had and added the cutest little Amagansett side table.

We actually had this table already but I moved it down to the playroom because of its fun shape and how light it is. I think it fits in perfectly down here! Also added a couple of La Jolla baskets for extra toy storage :)

Lastly, I added some artwork for the walls (there’s nothing better than art layered over wallpaper!!) as well as a white Topeka mirror. I chose the Topeka because of its light and airy rattan, which brings a natural element to the basement. It comes in two sizes (we have the small) and colorways and it’s really the sweetest mirror. I really wanted a statement piece that could double as art and this is just that.

Everything I ordered from Serena & Lily shipped within 2-4 weeks, which these days, is unheard of! And because everything shipped so quickly, I was able to tackle and complete the redesign of a room that had been on my to-do list for way too long.

I’m linking all of the Serena & Lily pieces I used as well as a few other favorites that ship quickly below!

What do you guys think?? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! xoxo
