A Love Of Stripes.

We all know that girls’ bedrooms can be super cute but today I’m spotlighting a boy’s room that I designed a few years ago and remains a favorite — because boys can have awesome rooms too, right?!

Right from the start, my client told me that she wanted the room to feel fun and welcoming but also a classic design that can grow with him over the years. The best part? She loves wallpaper just as much as I do — so we went full-force and decided to turn his room into a space that everyone would love for years to come.

First, a look at the “before” — a blank slate of a room with good bones (my favorite!).

We immediately settled on this “Stripes Away” wallpaper in a classic marigold pinstripe. Colorful and fun, but still a neutral.

We wallpapered every single wall in the bedroom and then it was time for the furniture! I chose a modern take on a classic spindle bed in a natural oak, a woven toy trunk, and olive green bedside tables to pull in a second color. To ground the space, I layered in a deep blue rug (my clients went to Michigan so they loved the blue and yellow together!) and neutral bedding.

Acrylic bookshelves helped to display books as artwork on one of the walls and on the opposite wall, I created a cozy reading nook with a vegan leather lounger, art and an olive green floor lamp.

One last touch that made me so happy was to add these acrylic toy bins to a blank wall by his door so we could display little collections (which, at the moment, are cars and animals — but can be anything from legos and rocks, to art supplies). The exact bins that I used are no longer sold but these are very similar!

We invested in the wallpaper and bigger furniture pieces but also mixed high and low to achieve a bedroom that feels cozy and collected, but also sophisticated. Affordable lamps and artwork (the bug print and driving dinosaur are so cute!) feel perfectly at home with some of the more expensive pieces. It all works.

A few more photos of the room because I’m just to happy with how it turned out:

I’d love to know what your favorite part of this room is!
