Lighting Tour Around My House

Lighting has always been one of my favorite parts of decorating. Long before I start to layer in accessories, I'm usually thinking about how a room will feel once the sun goes down. The right lighting can become a statement piece, but it's often the softer layers of lighting that make a home feel warm, lived in, and inviting.

Over the years, I've collected lighting that feels classic, textured, and a little unexpected. Today I'm taking you through our home and sharing each fixture along the way, along with why I chose it and how it helps define each space.

The first thing you notice when you step inside is the entry chandelier. I wanted something that immediately drew your eye upward without feeling formal. The sculptural silhouette makes a statement, but because it's finished in soft natural tones, it still feels approachable. It's a great example of how lighting can introduce the style of a home before you even walk into the first room.

Welcoming You In

The very first light you see when walking through our front door is this sculptural entry fixture, and I wanted it to feel special. Since the entryway is fairly simple architecturally, I knew the lighting would have to do a lot of the heavy lifting. The layered design brings texture overhead without feeling visually heavy, and it immediately sets the tone for the rest of the house.

The Entryway

Once you're inside, I love balancing the statement ceiling fixture with softer ambient lighting. This ceramic lamp is one of those pieces that works year round. During the day it simply becomes part of the styling, but in the evenings it's usually the light I turn on first. It instantly makes the entire entry feel warm and inviting before anyone even steps farther into the house.

One thing you'll notice throughout my home is that I rarely rely on one light source. The den is probably the best example of layering different types of lighting together.

The large table lamp fills this corner beautifully and gives the room a warm glow during the evenings. I love oversized lamps because they feel substantial enough to anchor a space while still blending into the overall design. The crisp white shade keeps everything feeling fresh against the warmer wood tones.

Just beyond the den, in our living room, I continued the same layered approach with a floor lamp tucked beside the seating area. Even though it's a different room, I wanted the lighting to feel cohesive throughout the main living spaces. The slim profile doesn't compete with the furniture, but it provides just the right amount of light for reading or relaxing and helps the room feel warm after the sun goes down.

Across the room, the table lamp helps balance the seating area while adding another layer of light for reading or relaxing. Instead of turning on overhead lights at night, these are usually the fixtures that create the cozy atmosphere we actually live in.

If I had to pick one of my favorite lighting moments in our home, it would probably be this dining room chandelier. The layered capiz-inspired design has so much movement and texture that it almost feels like artwork suspended from the ceiling.

Because the room has fairly classic furniture, I wanted the fixture to bring in something a little more unexpected without overpowering the space.

I also love incorporating lamps in dining spaces whenever I can. This oversized brass lamp adds another layer of warmth and makes the room feel collected rather than relying on a single overhead fixture. It's a small detail that completely changes the mood during dinner parties or slower evenings at home.

This is probably one of the happiest spaces in our house. Between the windows, wallpaper, and natural light, it never feels dark, but the chandelier still plays an important role. I wanted something clean and classic that wouldn't compete with the wallpaper while still giving the nook its own identity.

Behind the table, I kept the styling simple with a textured ceramic lamp. I love the contrast between the darker base and the light linen shade. Even when the chandelier is off, this little corner still feels finished because of the soft glow from the lamp.

The kitchen is full of clean lines and bright finishes, so I knew the island pendants needed to introduce warmth. The woven texture softens all of the cabinetry and stone while giving the room a relaxed, coastal feel that fits with the rest of our home.

They're one of those fixtures that make the kitchen feel designed without demanding all of the attention.

I don't think utility spaces have to be boring. Since this room already has bold wallpaper, I chose a petite flush mount with plenty of texture instead of a standard builder light.

It's proof that functional rooms deserve beautiful lighting too.

Powder rooms are one of my favorite places to take design risks. Since it's a smaller space, you can have a little more fun.

I love how the brass fixture and frosted glass shades feel both classic and current. The wrapped detail on the arm adds just enough texture to make it feel unique without distracting from everything else happening in the room.

For our primary bathroom, I kept things simple with polished nickel double sconces. Good bathroom lighting should be beautiful, but it also has to be functional, and these check both boxes.

Their clean lines let the rest of the finishes shine while providing plenty of light around the mirrors.

Kids' rooms are the perfect opportunity to have a little fun with lighting, and Ava's room definitely reflects that. This shell chandelier is playful and whimsical, but because it's done in soft neutral tones, it still feels timeless enough to grow with her.

It's one of those fixtures that always makes people stop and ask where it's from.

For Jacob's room, I wanted something much more understated. The woven flush mount adds natural texture overhead without making the room feel busy.

It's simple, relaxed, and fits perfectly with the layered neutrals throughout the space.

Lighting has always been one of my favorite ways to give a room personality. Whether it's an oversized chandelier, a simple table lamp, or a beautiful sconce, every fixture contributes to how a space feels throughout the day.

If there's one design tip I always come back to, it's this: don't rely on overhead lighting alone. Layering chandeliers, sconces, floor lamps, and table lamps creates a home that feels warmer, more inviting, and much more lived in. Those layers are what make a house feel like home.
