Outdoor Update With Serena & Lily.

With the warmer weather finally here (yay!), I’ve decided it was finally time to focus my attention on our neglected backyard space. When we moved in, we had pretty major irrigation issues in our yard, which turned the space into a swampy mess. Last summer, we finally fixed the issue underground and then worked to build a patio, added a new lawn, and planted flower beds. That was last summer’s big project, so this summer we were finally in a good place to add furniture and make it a space where we could all really hang out!

The good news is that we had a completely blank slate to work with (see below for a before shot!)

I did a fair amount of research on outdoor sectionals in all styles but always came back to the Pacifica Sectional, which is not only stunning, but also fit our space perfectly! It has the look of rattan but is actually made of weather-resistant resin in a really gorgeous sun-bleached shade of off white (it also comes in gray).

I chose to add cushions in Fog, which is a very light gray basketweave linen, but you can choose from a ton of weather-resistant, outdoor fabrics. I actually almost chose strips, but decided instead to incorporate stripes with accent pillows.

While I usually tend to stick with grays/creams/blues , I decided to branch out a bit and added a few Beach Stripe outdoor pillows in Moss Green to pick up the natural colors of the trees and flowers around us. I also moved my Montecito pillows (which are also for the outdoors) to the sofa for additional texture.

When it came to choosing a coffee table, it was really a no brainer for me: I’ve had my eyes on the Boonville Coffee Table for years and it totally makes the space. The table is cast from a real tree root, which gives it a beautiful and natural look.

While it’s beautiful enough to use indoors, it’s also totally weather-resistant, which makes it perfect for our patio. I have the Suffolk Tray on top of the table, which is absolutely HUGE and sturdy enough to hold a ton of plates, glasses, or food; really perfect for entertaining both indoors and out.

We had added the Catalina Rockers to our backyard this past spring and are SO happy with them. Just like the Pacifica sectional, they’re made of all-weather resin so totally outdoor friendly but also really comfortable! The kids love rocking in them.

The kids and I have spent the past few months planting flowers and shrubs all around the yard, so I decided to bring some of the greenery onto the patio by adding a few Fluted Planters, which I filled with lavender plants (which, btw, do really well in full sun!).

The planters are simple but the fluted design is so stunning and they’re really huge! I have the small size, which is actually pretty massive — perfect for flowering shrubs or even small trees.

What do you guys think?! I still can’t believe how far we’ve come in just one short year and I’m so, so thrilled with our backyard now.

A huge thank you to Serena & Lily for your help with this space. Looking forward to spending many sunny days ahead out here!
